"Disappointment with God" - 1 Thessalonians 3:1-10

Many years ago I read a book by Phillip Yancey titled Disappointment with God. The title intrigued me and the book I found to be worth the read. Have you ever been disappointed with God? Do you feel He let you down, wasn't there for you, or failed to live up to an expectation you had? If your answer is "Yes", then you are not alone!

Paul was only in Thessalonica a very short time. He gave the baby believers there the best he could, but was torn away like a parent from their children. Now he knows they are facing tremendous pressures for their decisions to walk away from worshipping idols to the living God. He is broken that he can't be there with them.

What was his worry? That they would be "shaken" by the things they were experiencing, and Satan would lure them away from God. Did they expect things to be easier? Were they surprised by opposition? Did they think God would shield them from all difficulty? If so, they would be very disappointed.

Tomorrow we will spend our time and mental energy getting a clear picture of what to expect as Christians. One man that Yancey interviewed in his book had experienced tremendous difficulties. When asked about being disappointed with God, he replied, "I would rather be disappointed with God than disappointed without God." Think about that and then......
