1 Peter 4:9-11

"Is it time for a cultural shift?" - 1 Peter 4:9-11

On Sunday September 16, 2001, churches were more crowded after the events of 9/11. There seems to be a similar phenomenon happening now, as well. Many have been asking the question, "Is a revival happening?"

That is a good question and a fair question. If responses are emotional, the current wave will disappear as fast as it came. But if it makes people ask deeper questions --- questions that transcend the event itself -- then we may see something special.

1 Peter offers us a chance to question culture -- why do we think and live and and value and decide the way we do? Why are so many people lonely? Why do so many people continue to feel unfulfilled by lives that lack real purpose? Are we ready for the counterintuitive wisdom of God?

Following the thread of 1 Peter 4 and "the end of all things is at hand", we find some valuable instruction for the church. There are some things that have been neglected. These are important things -- even essential things -- that have fallen by the wayside. Its time to consider the value of two simple things in particular.
