1 Peter 3:1-6

"Re-Imagining Marriage, pt 1" - 1 Peter 3:1-6

In a 1st century world, and at a time, when there was a very negative opinion of the followers of Jesus, Peter is urging the church to overcome a bad reputation with good works.

Our good works shine as citizens, employees, and even as husbands and wives. Do people see our marriages and glorify God? We all know the relative stats. "Christian" marriages don't seem to be shining very brightly, and many end in divorce.

What's up with that? How can we re-imagine marriage and re-think roles in a way that catches the attention of the world around us? Can we have happy and fulfilling marriages in an unhappy and unfulfilled world?

First, Peter gives some instruction to the wives. Six verses to be exact. This is matched by only a single verse to the husbands which we will look at next week.

What advice does Peter have for wives? Does it differ from the way we have imagined the role of wife to be?
