Colossians 3:12-17
"What should I wear?" That is a question I ask frequently. If I am officiating a wedding or a funeral, I want to know the general atmosphere of the occasion. Is this a formal event or will it be informal? What will other people be wearing? Think about attending a church service. Some churches may expect people coming to be dressed more formally, and then there is Calvary Chapel....flip flops and jeans! What wardrobe will best reflect the atmosphere?
Continuing with his use of clothing as a way to illustrate the old and new life, we will look at the things Paul wants the church to become comfortable wearing. We learned what attitudes and behaviors we needed to put off, like lying, filthy language, and anger. If those things were standard practice, then what do you do now? If lying or cursing has been a way of life, you might feel lost!
This next section is loaded with an entirely new wardrobe for the children of God. Toss out the clothes that were part of that man or woman that was an enemy of God, and reach into a newly stocked closet with fresh emotions and behaviors for a new man or woman!
What is the atmosphere of the Heavenly Father's family? How do "Jesus People" live? Is it formal or informal? What will other people be wearing? No, we are not talking about sport coats and ties or fancy hats. What are we talking about? For that you will have to.....
