"New Family Dynamics"

If you like basketball, maybe you noticed an interesting phenomenon that developed during the NCAA College championships. Teams donned some new and interesting clothing! They wore long sleeved, warm up shirts emblazoned with the word "family" along with their team colors. Despite spending longer than I should have investigating the origin of this, all i could find is that it seems to have originated with a 2019 Nike theme for the NCAA tournament.

What was the inspiration? One website suggested that, "with the NCAA tournament a time of intense competition, everyone has to come together in support of one another; like a family. Everyone has to be on the same page, not just the players and the coaching staff, but the university, the Alma Mater and the fans too." To succeed and advance in such an intense competition takes a tremendous amount of support from those closest to you, and that is where we are reminded of the purpose of "family".

If this is true in sports, how much more in life! As we are "putting on", like clothing, the new attitudes, emotions, and behaviors consistent with a new identity in Christ, tomorrow we will put on the "family" shirt ourselves. After discussing the contents of our new wardrobe - things like tender mercies, humility, gentleness, and love - we will see what it looks like to wear them onto the "court" of family life.

It's game time, and we have real, everyday relationships that are impacted by our new identity. What good is our new life if it never actually impacts our relations with those closest to us! In a simple and straightforward application section, Paul shows the Colossians, and us, what the new family dynamic looks like. To find out how all of this plays out at work and at home, you have to....
