Colossians 2:1-10

Chapter 2 of Colossians will give us some insight into the issues the church was facing. The world is full of people who lie to accomplish their own agenda. Wherever lying is found, it is damaging to institutions and relationships. Academics, science, politics, and yes, even religion, are undermined by people who lie.

The church itself is no stranger to malicious dishonesty, and Colossians is just one example. What are the things that threaten to undermine? What are the dangers? In the end, it is Jesus and His love and life that are minimized.

Don't get carried away, Paul says, like people that have surrendered and gotten taken captive in a battle. I have seen it and maybe you have seen it too! Someone gets all into some strange thing that usually involves some set of traditions that have to be kept or rituals to be performed. They stop hanging out with you because you just don't get what they have discovered with their little fringe minority.

How does that happen? Are you in danger? How can you stay on track and in line with Jesus? You know the answer.
