We are back in 1 Timothy, picking up in Chapter 4, verses 1-11. I enjoy the fact that the Apostle Paul understood the value, as did Jesus, of spiritual illustrations from the familiarity of our own lives! What do you mean? I will tell you...
Athletics, training, and competition were well known in the ancient world and served many purposes. Although the facilities looked different and the purposes for competition may have been different, they understood training and exercise. Drawing on that picture, Paul encourages Timothy to "eat right and exercise".
Has your doctor ever given you that prescription? In a world of fad diets and seemingly limitless exercise plans, the truth is that we can boil it all down. If you want to perform at your best, it doesn't have to be that confusing. First, eat right. That means to eat nutritious foods that your body can utilize to build muscles and sustain energy. And then exercise. What kind of exercise should i do? Basically, do what you want to perform better at doing! I like simple. That's simple. But are you giving us a lesson in health? Yes. Spiritual health. Huh?
Now, if you know some things about diet and exercise in the physical, bodily realm, then you can understand how things work in the spiritual realm! Eat right and exercise! How does that work? I don't understand? What am I exercising for?
