Practical Christianity - 1 Timothy 2:8-15

Now, Paul has tasked Timothy with getting the church back on track from the unhealthy teaching that led to unhealthy behaviors and attitudes. Paul begins to address the way they conduct themselves when they come together for worship. In this very practical section, we see how Christianity, when it seeps into the whole life, effects the way we think about ourselves and, therefore, the way we present ourselves.

In this section of eight verses, one verse is directed to the men and seven to the women! In a Roman culture where the attitude is "you are what you wear", Paul is setting the record straight for women who claim to follow God. There is no lack of worldly women who take their cues from modern culture, but Godly women are different, or at least they should be! The parallels between then and now are uncanny. We live in a culture where motherhood is not seen as a noble undertaking, pregnancy is seen as damaging to beauty, and tons of money is spent by women on beautification. They had the same issues. What is a woman to do?
