"Crossroads" - 2 Timothy 2:1-13

Maybe you are familiar with the famous cartoon character, Yogi Bear. And maybe you are familiar with the famous 1950s MLB baseball catcher and humorist, Yogi Berra. Many of his sayings have become famous, but one of my favorites is, "When you see a fork in the road, take it." I wish it were that simple.

Every so often we come to a fork in the road. A decision, a choice, a decisive moment where we have to pick a direction. There is no avoiding it and no turning back. It's not simple.

Young Timothy, the pastor to whom Paul has written this letter from death row, is at a crossroads. Paul has given Timothy examples of those who have taken one direction -- and there are many.

He has also given an example of one who has chosen a different path. They are fewer because the path is more difficult. Most people will follow the path of least resistance. But even a dead fish can float downstream, right? It takes energy to go against the current. Energy which some "fish" are just not willing to expend.

What is the crossroads at which Timothy finds himself? What are his choices? How does Paul urge him, with three powerful examples, in a certain direction? Good question to which the answers are found in our passage for tomorrow! So..
