"Oh, What's the Use?" - 2 Timothy 2:20-26

so we will pick up where we left off in 2 Timothy, Chapter 2 in this message. Paul continues to hammer home the damage done by idle talk and arguing about words -- the heart of both worldly and legalistic teachings.

Do you ever invite people to your house for a meal? Have you ever grabbed for a glass from the cupboard only to find that it was dirty? Maybe the dishwasher didn't do it's job. What do you do? Do you serve the iced tea in that glass, or do you put it back and grab a clean one?

If you said you would serve me the dirty glass, then that would tell me how little you care about me or how little you care about good hospitality. You would put it back and choose a glass that was clean and ready to use.

We can never be quite sure how the smooth talking, resurrection denying false teachers were influencing Timothy. We know they we having an influence on others. Their convincing arguments about words drew some away and it was spreading.

Paul uses a powerful illustration to paint a picture to encourage Timothy. As we unfold the illustration and what it meant to young Timothy, we will consider what it means to us as well.

SO, if you want to know what glasses of tea have to do with you and me, then...

...VIEW AND SEE! [I do hope you appreciate the spontaneous rhyme!]
