2 Peter 1:12-21
"Can I really trust the Bible?" - 2 Peter 1:12-21
In this teaching we will spend our time in the second half of 2 Peter chapter 1.
Peter hammered home the need for us to take our "new nature" and let it grow - to be serious about investing in our Christian lives so we can be fruitful.
But.....is it foolish to put all of our eggs in one basket? What if we are wrong? What of the Bible is just some good stories to teach morals? What if it simply serves the purpose of making God the easy answer to the things we don't understand?
Peter knows what people are going to say. "The bible is just a myth". "Jesus might as well be Santa Clause or any other mythical creation of the mind of a storyteller. These seeds of doubt, he knows, will surely undermine the faith of believers.
Peter writes this letter with a sense of responsibility to leave a reminder for future generations. Reminder of what?
You can bet it has to do with trusting the word of God and the story it tells of Jesus. Why do his words have extra emphasis? Why is there urgency and clarity? That's on the agenda for this service,.... so,
