1 John 2:22-29

"Don't......move...!" - 1 John 2:22-29

Americans love novelty. That is not my opinion. That is part of our culture. We get bored easily and feel restless and need....something new....something different. A new car, a new church, a new boyfriend/girlfriend, a new......something. Maybe that will give us peace.

This, in and of itself, is not bad. New things, that is. Sometimes it is needed and very appropriate. We serve a God a new beginnings and we sing a new song to the Lord. We are "new creations" in Christ. True. All true.

But....there is a danger here. The philosophers in the ancient Greek areopagus hung out all day waiting to hear some new information...some new philosophy...some new take on an old idea. We too are inundated with new ideas and podcasts and blogs and vlogs and shorts and I don't even know how many other venues.

John knows the new philosophies of His day. New spins on an old truth. If you spin it enough, it stops being true. So John says....."I am writing because people are trying to seduce you."

The idea of being spiritually "seduced" is not an attractive one to me. You? How do we protect ourselves? That's what we will discuss in this teaching from 1 John, so...
