"The First First Responder" - Psalms 107-108

Imagine dialing 9-1-1 in an emergency, and no one answering. A few years ago there was a small county that made cuts to their local law enforcement. A woman called 9-1-1 because someone was breaking into her house and she was understandably terrified.

It was disturbing to hear the dispatcher tell her that there was no one to send. The dispatcher said, "Can you hide under the bed?" That is the best they could do. It was surreal.

We appreciate those who respond to cries for help. Psalm 107 recounts the trouble of Israel using four different illustrations of their problem! There is a wonderfully poetic repeating pattern you will notice immediately. They cry out and God responds, even when it was their foolish behavior that got them there!

The root of the heart of God as a first responder is his cherished, or enduring love. We will start the night with a brief "Bible Project" video that describes this love. And then.....we will follow through and see that their troubles can be described just like ours!
