"Hope when things are hard" - 1 Peter
In this series we will connect with followers of Jesus that lived 2000 years ago in a different part of the world and a different culture.
Despite that, we can relate to the fact that they were living in very hard times -- loving a savior they had never seen, living in a world that was not their home.
Peter writes a very pastoral letter -- full of instruction and encouragement. Just in the opening section we are faced with the theology of the early church -- the trinity, election, sanctification, the second coming of Jesus. We also get some insight into the theology of emotions!
If there is one thing I know for sure, it is that many, if not all, of us are feeling some sort of pressure from hard things. No, we are generally not persecuted for being followers of Jesus, we are certainly misunderstood by many and misrepresented by some. And then there are the family and relational difficulties that we have to manage. It can be totally overwhelming!
In our first section, we will talk more about faith and testing, and what is the relationship between faith and emotions??? Good question for which Peter has a solid answer. So then, we shall ...
