"Playing Favorites" - James 2:1-13
To James, favoritism might be part of the social economy of the world, but it has no place in the church. Why? Because it is inconsistent with the nature of our father!
Although the people James is writing to might be doing well in some areas, they have a glaring "blind spot". They were placing a higher value on the wealthy, and devaluing the poor. This might fly in the world, but not in the church!
Favoritism has been around since people have. It is subtle but can cause a lot of damage. Very few things can cause division and hurt like playing favorites. James has to give the church a foundation for how we are to think about each other, and what is the basis for our treatment of one another.
